SPIDERS do not intentionally seek out humans as prey, but they do bite when threatened so it's probably wise to have venomous spiders removed from your home or place of business. Of particular concern are brown recluse spiders, who seek out dry, undisturbed places to build their webs. Bites often initially go unnoticed, but become painful and itchy within 2 to 8 hours, occasionally causing an ulcer at the bite site. Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting, fever, rashes, and muscle/joint pain. Very rarely, bites can be fatal or especially symptomatic in children under seven or for others with compromised immune systems.
